Transparent Art Class
Explore a fascinating art form that became popular in the 1770s, when delicate images known as transparencies were designed to glow when held up to candlelight or a sunny window. These layered artworks created beautiful illuminated scenes and were enjoyed as both decoration and entertainment in homes centuries ago.
In this hands-on workshop, participants will create their own transparency artwork using paper, acetate, and layered design techniques. You can follow a provided pattern or let your imagination guide you as you design a completely original image. Learn how cutting, layering, and light work together to bring your artwork to life with a luminous effect.
This creative class is perfect for artists and crafters of all skill levels and offers a unique opportunity to experiment with light and shadow while exploring a historic artistic tradition. At the end of the workshop, each participant will leave with a finished transparency piece ready to display in a window or against a light source at home.
All materials are included. Recommended for ages 9 and up.
