Show & Write: An Object/Memoir Workshop With Author Lori Jakiela
Lori Jakiela's latest book, The Things You Can't Remember Become the Things You Can't Forget (Roadside Press, June 2026) is described as an object/memoir. It's a recounting of an object--in Jakiela's case, an old music box--and the way the things in our lives hold our lives in many ways.
This workshop invites writers of all levels to bring in their own object, through which they'll be invited to explore the secrets and stories that object holds. Jakiela will guide workshop participants in writing about their objects, and will share snippets from her own object/memoir as everyone works together to prove, as William Carlos Williams once said, there are no ideas but in things.
Participants will have the opportunity to share their writing in a supportive, communal space. Copies of Jakiela's book will be available for sale and signing. Workshop size will be limited. Cost for the two-hour workshop will be $20, with a sliding scale available for folks who need a little help.
