VisitPITTSBURGH Announces Year-End Traveler Review Research
Less than one percent of downtown hotel reviews note safety as concern
(PITTSBURGH, PA) – The reviews are in. According to a new year-end report released today from VisitPITTSBURGH, less than one percent of hotel reviews posted throughout 2023 had a negative sentiment toward the safety of Pittsburgh’s downtown.
The report, issued by TrustYou, collected and analyzed 19,894 downtown hotel reviews for specific keywords related to safety from January through December 2023—an 8.5 percent increase over reviews collected last year. Of those reviews, less than one percent (0.7%) noted safety as a negative topic or concern while visiting.
“Last year marked a pivotal turning point in the conversation surrounding the safety of our downtown,” said Jerad Bachar, President & CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH. “Our organization constantly monitors traveler sentiment in the form of hotel reviews, because a safe and vibrant downtown is vital to our mission to grow visitation throughout the Pittsburgh region.”
TrustYou is an international software company that aggregates guest feedback from a variety of known sources, like TripAdvisor and Yelp, to provide insight into guest experiences while in market. Safety of a destination is assessed through a search of more than 30 keywords.

Downtown occupancy data for 2023 tells a similar story, reflecting a 4.7% increase year-over-year.
