VisitPITTSBURGH Celebrates National Plan for Vacation Day
When You’re Ready Campaign Keeps Pittsburgh Top of Mind
PITTSBURGH – VisitPITTSBURGH is proud to support and celebrate National Plan for Vacation Day, presented by U.S. Travel Association, on Jan. 26. VisitPITTSBURGH will amplify its current When You’re Ready marketing campaign in addition to boosting U.S. Travel’s social media messaging using #PlanForVacation.
National Plan for Vacation Day takes place annually the last Tuesday in January. The yearly reminder encourages Americans to plan their vacation days for the whole year at the start of the year, with an emphasis on inspiring them to use those days to travel in the United States.
According to 2020 research by Destination Analysts, American workers used just 40% of their earned paid time off to travel in 2020, and now, more than ever, it’s important for travelers to plan ahead for future vacations. The research also shows that 84% of American workers are excited to plan a vacation in the next six months, with 97% of survey respondents saying having a trip planned makes them happier.
“It’s been a challenging year, and I know we all have missed traveling and exploring our great country,” U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow said. “While many are not yet ready or able to take a vacation, we are encouraging Americans to pull out their calendars on Jan. 26 and get a future trip on the books – even if that just means dreaming about your next getaway.”
“Industry research indicates that travel priorities in 2021 include finding a change of scenery, spending more time with family or friends and exploring more of the U.S.,” VisitPITTSBURGH President & CEO Jerad Bachar noted. “As travelers make plans for their vacation time this year, we want them to know that Pittsburgh is a safe, exciting destination brimming with activities for families to see and do together. And, we stand ready to welcome them.”
The When You’re Ready campaign includes targeted ads in key drive markets, including Cleveland, Erie, Harrisburg and others, and a video. The campaign, which will continue through March, also will utilize social advertising, connected TV, video instream and display advertising efforts.
Whether viewers have visited Pittsburgh before or are discovering the city for the first time, many will easily identify iconic Pittsburgh imagery displayed throughout the video, including the Duquesne Incline, Point State Park, the three “Sister Bridges” and the mighty three rivers.
Also at the forefront of the campaign is the reinforcement of the numerous health and safety practices implemented throughout the region, including mask wearing. Visitors and residents can learn more about the steps Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh are taking to keep them safe, as well as initiatives within the local tourism community, through the Pittsburgh Global Health (PGH) & Safety Commitment.
