SportsPITTSBURGH Celebrates Back-to-Back Steel City Freeze Volleyball Tournaments
SportsPITTSBURGH welcomes the return of the Steel City Freeze volleyball tournaments, bringing two consecutive weekends of elite youth competition to the region.
The first weekend, Feb. 1-2, is set to feature the highly anticipated Steel City Freeze Girls Volleyball Tournament, a 10-year staple in the Pittsburgh youth sports community. The following weekend, Feb. 8-9, the Steel City Freeze Boys Volleyball Tournament will make its much-anticipated return after a successful inaugural year in 2024. Due to overwhelming demand, the boys’ tournament has sold out and is already exploring expansion into a three-day tournament in 2026.
“We are excited to once again host the Steel City Freeze tournaments and continue to position Pittsburgh as a premier destination for championship youth sports,” said Jim Britt, Vice President of Sports Events at SportsPITTSBURGH. “The remarkable growth of the boys’ tournament in just one year is a testament to the strength of our local sports community and our ability to attract and support top-tier youth competitions in the region. If you’re looking to escape the cold, we encourage you to take in a match and experience the action in the City of Champions.”
A total of 784 teams are set to compete across the two weekends. With an estimated 24,000 athletes, coaches and families expected to attend, these premier events will generate an estimated $8.7 million in direct visitor spending for the Pittsburgh weekend.
SportsPITTSBURGH is dedicated to driving regional growth by attracting, supporting and servicing major sporting events that boost the local economy, amplify our local events calendar and showcase Pittsburgh as a leading sports destination. The Steel City Freeze tournaments exemplify this mission, bringing tens of thousands of visitors to the region while fostering opportunities for youth athletes—including many from right here in Pittsburgh—to compete.
“Pittsburgh has been a tremendous host city for our Steel City Freeze tournaments,” said Tim Keating, Tournament Director and Co-owner of GK Sports. “From the incredible venue at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center to the services provided by SportsPITTSBURGH to support the longevity and growth of our event, we love returning to Pittsburgh year-after-year and providing athletes and their families with a first-class experience.”
