The Essence of the Soul: Kevin Lee Sun, piano
Dr. Kevin Lee Sun, Assistant Professor of Piano, presents his solo recital program THE ESSENCE OF THE SOUL on Friday, September 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the PNC Recital Hall. Inspired by European, Middle Eastern, and Native American spiritual beliefs, Dr. Sun’s program invites the listener into a "meditation on spirituality, loss, and the intimacy of life's small joys." So writes Colin Kemper in explaining his work Buffalo (2020), whose Northeastern premiere will be given by Dr. Sun on this Duquesne recital. Music by canonical masters d'Anglebert and Brahms, 20th-century mavericks Stockhausen and Scelsi, and living composer Hyo-shin Na round out this immersive and contemplative program that breathes, chants, and soulfully sings.
